Baby safety – Newborn photography

Baby Safety – Newborn Photography Essex

Part One – Their will be several posts at later dates with more composite images.

Baby safety in newborn photography is a very very important when you are choosing your newborn photographer. Making sure that they are trained in the field as well as being insured is a must. So please when choosing your photographer do research and don’t just go by price, ask them about training and how long they have been doing this and if they have had training recently.

I would also ask if they are a member of BANPAS (baby and newborn photography association). This association is and promotes the safety of your newborns at their newborn session with the photographer safe working practices so it’s worth asking if they are a member or even checking out their members directory found here when your looking at booking your newborn session to help find a photographer.

Newborn photography as an industry is not regulated by any one but BANPAS try to promote safety and also checks that all their members are insured and able to do those composite images which you see.  Here is also a link if you which to check out the BANPAS newborn safety blog or composite blog for more information.

Newborn photography isn’t just about putting them down and taking pictures like some do,  it so so much more.  You are handing over your very precious newborn baby who will be only a few days/weeks old, you are trusting them to handle and care of them during the session in posing them on/in props as well as on the beanbag in various poses and props. Some images are done as composites which means they are two images or more to make the final image, or images are done with the parent/spotter very close by your baby and with hands on, so that their are no risks to them.

My newborn baby sessions lasts between 2-4 hours as we go at your babies pace with feeds cuddles and making sure that they are in a deep enough sleep so that they are can be easily poses and it’s totally baby led as not every baby will do all poses in every prop so we go by what they are happy to do.

Professional newborn photography is an art and not every photographer has the ability  and skill to achieve the poses and it shouldn’t be tried without training in safety and also posing, some images as I said before are composites several images out together and parents/spotters edit out to get those images you see for example of baby with its hands on it head.

Below is the composite of the head in the hands image and my before and after of images to achieve this look and if you ask any of my previous clients about their newborn baby session I am sure that they will also tell you that their precious child was never at any risk and always had someone very close by or even with  their hands on them for those images needed to.
