How to choose your Essex Newborn Photographer

 

Congratulations, if your reading this post it may mean that your looking for a newborn photographer. You may have only just started to look or you may have been looking for a while it’s such a hard job deciding which photographer to choose. I would advice to look at the BANPAS website for some hints and tips on choosing and also finding a photographer in your area. The BANPAS is an organisation who promote newborn baby safety and this should be your first thing you think when your booking is are they trained, insured and have safe working practices. The BANPAS organising upon registering requires to see your insurance and composite images to insure your working safely.

I have training in newborn posing and baby safety you can see some of my composite images, every year I do training to make sure my skills are always improving and getting better to ensure you get the best images I can produce. I am fully insured also.

Where to start in choosing your newborn photographer….

The internet can be a great source of information, BANPAS is even better they have great information on choosing and also a map/postcode finder to help you in your search for those local to you. Also word of month is even better someone your friend may have used or heard about through the grapevine.

I would suggest someone local if your traveling to their studio due to you don’t want to be traveling long periods with a new baby. Unless they are coming to your home this isn’t a problem (some photographers do charge you mileage if your out of their area).

I would list three or 4 photographers that you like their work and cover your area.

Once you you have your choices then questions to think about and ask.

Most people book their newborn photographer after their 12/20 week scan and some do get booked up very quickly so I do advise booking before baby arrives.

Do they have a studio or do they come to you. If you have had a c section you may not want to travel to their studio or looking at a photographer who offers both could be great. I do offer both sessions at my home studio and also your home.

Do you love their images, are they the style that you like and will have hanging on your wall for years to come  or have albums of their images of your baby. Do they have a great portfolio, with a varity of images poses and props, does the babies look comfortable in poses and props. Check out their website facebook page or other social media, facebook generally has their most up to date work (I know mind does).

It’s always best to ask about training and your babies safety, I for one know how precious your baby is (I have two beautiful little girls who I adore and are very protective over). Some poses are composites (two images together) and some have lots of work that goes into them to remove the person supporting the baby. How long have they be doing newborn photography. Skill in editing out blemishes and also jaundice (some baby’s have this and it does require additional editing).

How long do the sessions last. My sessions last 2-4 hours due to we go at your baby’s pace with lots of feeds, cuddles, nappy changes,  prop changes depending on what your wanting some of these take a little while to get your baby in poses and set up. And some times baby needs a little while to get into a deep enough sleep.

Cost – this is the last on the list for me as loving their images and baby’s safety are so priority. I wouldn’t dream of going to someone who charges £50 for newborn session and all images on the disc as most of the time they may not be insured or have the correct training and at this rate to me it says they are just starting out for me I would want someone with the expertise and training and know that My baby will be in safe hands. I am a great believer in you get what you pay for. I know it can be a big factor for some and with me their are no hidden costs all my prices and packages are online.
